Tough life
Sparta soon dominated the Peloponnese peninsula. But life in Sparta was hard. Ancient Greek authors claimed that weak or sick male babies were abandoned on a hillside to die of exposure, this was a very common thing in the ancient Greek society because Sparta made it an official
greek policy. When a male Spartan was 7 he was taken away from his family and sent to the military barracks to be taught, How to endure the pain, Discipline, Athletics and how to survive in different situations.

The Military
The life of a spartan in the military was a hard one. He ate, slept and trained with the, they were allowed to marry but not allowed to live with their wives unless they were an equal. An equal is a soldier who has reached the age of 30 but if any soldier before the age of thirty has done anything to embarrass/disgrace his family name, he will not be eligible to become an equal. equals were given extended rights like being able to participate in politics, however equals were still soldiers because military service was needed until the age of 60.
Society
Spartan society was divided into three main classes, The spartiate (Spartans who could trace their ancestry all the way to the first inhabitants of sparta,) Perioeci (dwellers from the outskirts and around Sparta) and the Helots who were not owned by individual but they were owned by the Spartan government who allocated families of Helots to patches of land that was set aside for spartan families.
